Luce was a small, scruffy puppy with a heart as big as the world. Born with a unique appearance that set her apart from the other puppies in her litter, she was often overlooked and judged. Her parents, who had always dreamed of a perfect, show-worthy dog, were disappointed.
Today was Luce’s birthday, but instead of celebrating, she was filled with dread. She had overheard her parents talking about giving her away to a shelter. They said she was “ugly” and would never find a loving home. Tears welled up in her eyes as she thought of being alone and unloved.
As the day wore on, Luce’s parents packed her belongings. She watched helplessly as they placed her in a cardboard box, her tail tucked between her legs. Just as they were about to close the door, a gentle knock sounded. A kind-hearted woman named Emily stood on the doorstep.
Emily had heard about Luce and couldn’t resist meeting her. As she approached the puppy, Luce’s heart raced. Emily knelt down, her eyes filled with compassion. She reached out and gently stroked Luce’s fur. To Luce’s surprise, Emily didn’t recoil or make a disgusted face. Instead, she smiled and said, “Hello, little one. You’re the most beautiful puppy I’ve ever seen.”
Luce’s eyes widened in disbelief. Could it be true? Was someone actually finding her beautiful? Emily scooped Luce up into her arms and carried her out to her car. As they drove away, Luce looked out the window, her tail wagging furiously. She knew that her life was about to change, and for the first time in a long time, she felt hope.
