Meji, a small, shivering puppy, huddled beneath a discarded cardboard box on the cold, unforgiving streets of Hanoi. Today was his birthday, a day that most puppies would celebrate with joy and excitement. But for Meji, it was a day of loneliness and despair.
He had been abandoned as a tiny pup, left to fend for himself in the harsh urban environment. Growing up, he had learned to survive, scavenging for food, seeking shelter from the elements, and dodging the occasional unkind passerby.
As the wind whipped around him, Meji’s body trembled with cold. He tried to curl up tighter, but there was no warmth to be found in the cardboard box. He remembered the day he was abandoned, the fear and confusion he had felt as his mother disappeared from sight.
Tears welled up in Meji’s eyes. He missed the warmth of his mother’s fur, the comfort of her presence. He longed for someone to love him, to protect him, and to make him feel safe.
Just as Meji was about to give up hope, he heard a soft voice. “Hello there, little guy,” a kind voice said. Meji looked up to see a young girl standing in front of him. She was holding a small blanket and a bowl of warm food.
Meji’s heart raced with excitement. He wagged his tail as hard as he could. The girl smiled and knelt down to pet him. “Is it your birthday today?” she asked.
Meji’s eyes widened. He couldn’t believe his ears. Was this really happening? The girl reached out and gently picked him up. As she carried him away, Meji looked back at the empty streets. He knew his life was about to change forever.
