Strawberry was a dog small. Today was her first birthday, a day she had been looking forward to for weeks. She had imagined balloons, birthday cake, and lots of belly rubs. But instead of celebrating, she was feeling very sick.
Her human, Emily, had noticed that Strawberry wasn’t acting like herself. She was lethargic, had no appetite, and was shivering. Worried, Emily took Strawberry to the vet. The vet diagnosed her with a mild cold and prescribed some medication.
Strawberry was disappointed. She had hoped for a fun-filled birthday, but instead, she was stuck at home, feeling miserable. She missed playing with her toys and chasing butterflies in the backyard. As the day wore on, Strawberry’s sadness grew. She curled up in her basket, her big, brown eyes filled with tears.
Emily tried to cheer Strawberry up by reading her favorite stories and giving her extra cuddles. She also promised Strawberry that as soon as she felt better, they would have a big birthday party.
Slowly but surely, Strawberry began to feel better. Her appetite returned, and her energy levels started to increase. A few days later, Emily took Strawberry to the vet for a follow-up check-up. The vet said she was doing much better and would be back to her normal self in no time.
With a newfound sense of hope, Strawberry looked forward to her birthday celebration. She knew it wouldn’t be the same as she had imagined, but she was grateful to be healthy and surrounded by the love of her family.
