Minnie was an eight-year-old Labrador Retriever with a gentle soul. She had spent most of her life in the shelter, a place she’d come to call home, even though it wasn’t the home she’d always dreamed of. Today was her birthday, a day that usually filled her with a sense of hope, but this year, it felt particularly bleak.
It was a year ago today that Minnie had been brought to the shelter by her family. They had said she was “too old” and “too slow.” Minnie had been heartbroken, feeling abandoned and unwanted. She had spent the last year longing for a loving family, a warm home, and the simple joy of being loved.
As the day wore on, Minnie wandered through the shelter, her tail drooping sadly. She sniffed at her empty food bowl and looked longingly out the window. She missed the feeling of a soft bed, the sound of a familiar voice, and the comfort of a loving home.
