Pubby was a little puppy with big sad eyes. He was all alone on his birthday. He had no home, no friends, and no one to wish him a happy birthday. His stomach was empty, he felt cold and scared.
Pubby had been wandering the streets for days. He was hungry and thirsty, and he missed his mom. He remembered the warmth of her fur and the comfort of her lap. He missed the way she would lick his ears and scratch his belly.
On his birthday, Pubby curled up in a cardboard box behind a dumpster. He whimpered softly as tears streamed down his face. He wished he had a family, a warm bed, and a delicious cake. He wished someone would love him.
As the day wore on, Pubby’s sadness grew deeper. He felt so alone and unwanted. He thought about giving up, but he knew he couldn’t do that. He had to keep going, no matter how hard it was.
Just as Pubby was about to fall asleep, he heard a gentle voice. “Hello, little one,” the voice said. “Are you okay?”
Pubby looked up and saw a kind-looking woman standing above him. She had a warm smile and gentle eyes. Pubby wagged his tail tentatively, hoping she would help him.
The woman knelt down and gently petted Pubby’s head. “You’re such a sweet boy,” she said. “Would you like to come home with me?”
Pubby’s heart leaped with joy. He had finally found a home. The woman picked him up and carried him away from the dumpster. As they walked, Pubby looked up at her with gratitude. He knew his life was about to change.
