A Heartbreaking Past of Exploitation and Abandonment
Plum’s life began with mistreatment and exploitation in a puppy mill. Deprived of love and a proper home, she was forced to produce numerous litters of puppies. When she was no longer deemed useful, her breeders abandoned her at an overcrowded shelter in Riverside, California. Plum arrived at the shelter terrified and withdrawn, her spirit broken.
A Desperate Plea and a Timely Rescue
After three weeks at the shelter, Plum was placed on a euthanasia list. Her situation seemed hopeless. However, the compassionate individuals behind Saving Riverside Shelter Dogs, a networking page dedicated to rescuing red-listed dogs, learned about Plum and shared her story in a heartbreaking video on social media. The video touched many hearts, and Amber Arpin, along with Imagine Peace for Pups Rescue, stepped in to save Plum. They pulled her from the shelter and placed her with a local foster named Lea Candelo.
From Foster Care to a Forever Home
After a week with Candelo, Plum traveled to Portland, Oregon, to meet Arpin and the Imagine Peace for Pups team. Zeb Walter, who would soon become Plum’s foster-to-adopt dad, picked her up. Despite her difficult past, Plum displayed a trusting and affectionate nature, greeting everyone with kisses and tail wags. She received cuddles and her first puppaccino, a clear sign that her life was about to change for the better.
A New Life of Love and Healing
Plum quickly settled into her new home with Walter and her new furry sister, Miley. She finally experienced the love and care she had always deserved. Shortly after arriving, Plum underwent veterinary treatment, including the removal of two cancerous masses. Thankfully, she made a full recovery and was declared cancer-free. Plum now enjoys a life filled with love, hikes, park visits, and the constant companionship of her family. Her journey from a life of exploitation and abandonment to a loving forever home is a testament to the power of compassion and the dedication of rescuers who give animals a second chance.
