Pharm was a small, scruffy dog with a heart as big as the world. He had been living with a foster family for the past year, and he had grown to love them dearly. He thought they loved him too, but today, on his birthday, he was about to learn the truth.
As the morning sun peeked through the curtains, Pharm’s tail, usually wagging with excitement, hung low. He sensed something was wrong. His foster parents, who had always been so gentle with him, were packing boxes. Pharm followed them around the house, his eyes filled with confusion and fear.
When they finally finished packing, his foster mom knelt down and stroked Pharm’s head. “I’m sorry, Pharm,” she said, her voice filled with sadness. “We can’t keep you anymore.” Pharm’s heart sank. He had loved his foster family more than anything in the world. He had always been there for them, through thick and thin.
His foster dad picked Pharm up and carried him outside to a waiting van. Pharm struggled, his paws clawing at the air. He didn’t want to leave. He wanted to stay with his foster family. But as the van drove away, Pharm could only watch helplessly as his home disappeared from sight.
The shelter was a cold, impersonal place. Pharm was placed in a small cage and given a bowl of food and water. He ate quickly, but his appetite was gone. He missed his foster family terribly. He missed the warmth of their embrace, the sound of their laughter, and the feeling of being loved.
As the day wore on, Pharm couldn’t stop crying. He whimpered and howled, his heart aching with loneliness. He was just a dog, but he had felt the same emotions as any human. He had loved and been loved, and now he had lost everything.
