Malu was a sweet little puppy with big, soulful eyes. Today was his special day, his birthday, but there was a heavy cloud hanging over his tiny heart. No one seemed to remember.
Usually, his birthday was a flurry of excitement. His human, Emily, would decorate the house with balloons and streamers, bake him a special doggy cake, and invite all his furry friends over for a party. But this year, the house was quiet and empty. Emily had been busy with work, and Malu’s usual playmates were nowhere to be seen.
Malu wandered around the house, his tail drooping sadly. He sniffed at the empty food bowl, hoping for a special treat. But all he found was the usual kibble. He looked out the window, longing for a glimpse of his favorite squirrel, but the park was deserted.
As the day wore on, Malu’s heart grew heavier. He curled up in his favorite spot, his head resting on his paws. Tears welled up in his big, brown eyes. He missed his human, and he missed his friends. He just wanted someone to tell him happy birthday.
Just as Malu was about to give up hope, he heard a faint scratching sound at the door. He perked up his ears and wagged his tail hopefully. The door creaked open, and Emily stepped inside, carrying a big, colorful box.
“Happy birthday, Malu!” she exclaimed, her voice filled with joy. “I forgot all about it today. I’m so sorry.”
Malu’s heart leaped with joy. Emily pulled him into a big hug, and he licked her face happily. She opened the box, revealing a brand-new toy and a delicious doggy cake.
“Let’s have a party just for you,” Emily said. “We can go to the park and play fetch. And I’ll make sure you have the best birthday ever.”
Malu’s tail wagged so hard it seemed like it might break. He couldn’t believe his luck. His birthday wasn’t ruined after all. He had his human, and he had a whole day of fun ahead of him.
