Orange was a small, orange puppy with big, hopeful eyes. He’d been loved and cherished by his family until his first birthday. But on this special day, instead of celebrating, Orange found himself sitting in a cold, metal kennel at the animal shelter.

His parents had brought him there, their faces filled with sadness. They’d explained that they couldn’t take care of him anymore, that they were moving to a smaller place. Orange had watched them leave, his tail tucked between his legs. He didn’t understand why they were giving him away.

As the day went on, Orange watched the other dogs playing and interacting with their human friends. He longed for the touch of a loving hand, the warmth of a lap to curl up in. But all he had was the cold, hard floor of his kennel and the mournful howls of the other animals.

A volunteer came by to feed Orange, but he couldn’t eat. His heart was heavy with sadness. He missed his old home, his family, and the love he had once known. He wondered why his birthday had turned out to be so terrible.

As the sun began to set, Orange lay down in his kennel, his head on his paws. He closed his eyes and tried to imagine a better life, a life where he was loved and wanted. He hoped that one day, someone would come along and take him home, and that his birthday would no longer be a day of sadness, but a day of joy and celebration.
